Another fun night in Helsinki...

A band called Back Up and they played Sweet Home Alabama! Awww yeah! Natalie and I, she's the Aussie girl I met. Another Aussie guy next to her. My friends Lynn and Katja, Katja and Me, Bjorn and Sarah, Nemo who doesn't like to take pictures, some great kid we met along the way with Natalie, Natalie Hugh and Sarah, Me and Lynn, Me with Lynns cool jacket on, Me and James...he's the one who sang with me. I have hung out with him twice before, (pretty cool kid from the UK) some other friends, Lynn and Elius (at least that is what is sounds like...have no idea how to spell), Natalie Sarah and I, Natalie and Sarah and last but not least the Dude! :)
I forgot to mention on all my touring around...hahaha that sounds funny. I got a free reflector with my Helsinki Card so no cars will be hitting me. And the grilled reindeer actually was really good. I have to admit I haven't tasted many things I don't like except that its all different, but I expected that. Last night I went ice skating at Jääpuisto, it was the outside rink by my house. It was so very beautiful cause it started to snow and it was just so breathtaking. They play music and there is a tiny café next to it as well where I tried laskiaispulla, which was by the way delicious!! It is like a bun filled with whip cream and almond like flavors! So good! It's funny how people thought I might lose weight over here because the food is so different...I think they we wrong cause its all so good! I noticed though there isn't as much junk food here as back home though.
Some more things that make me go hmmmmm....Take 3
1. Have casinos in the marketplaces
2. say Yo...or Nay...(well that is what it sounds like but have no idea how to spell) the same as we say yeah yeah...when talking
3. Alcohol sold almost anywhere even Roberts Coffee
4. Smiling is rare (I say this because yesterday after work I was super excited to go out to the ice skating place and I was smiling and jamming out with my shuffle...I got a lot of stares...maybe because of what I was wearing...its possible...but also because I was smiling I think...this guy even stopped me and said why do you smile? I think maybe he thought I was laughing at him or something...when clearly I had headphones on and just smiled not laughed but I said to him...because it is WHO I AM...I LIKE TO SMILE...) I shake my head as I type this because it's not that everyone is like this I just think it was so rare to actually be stopped for it. Oh well.
5. Crime is not high and police officers are nowhere really to be found
6. Dog walkers must pick up their dogs ummm...ya know...
7. Nordic walkers are a lot more common than I thought
8. No one wears sunglasses cause it's not really sunny
9. Skinny jeans are in! But then again everyone is skinny
10. Food is quite expensive here and it's Take Away not To Go...but i knew that before coming here from what I read
11. Finnish men stare but don't talk to you in clubs
12. It is rare for a Finn to have "small talk" with a stranger
13. Don't get on a tram without ticket or you will have to pay 80€ (not that i know anything about that)
14. Peeing in public for men is common...I've seen a few
15. Coat check sometimes costs money
16. I live on the same street as the best club in town...I know and everyone else knows cause I can hear them during the week at times past 4AM
17. I haven't seen any bugs anywhere...not like in Florida
...To be cont'd

Looks like you had a great time with your friends and band Back Up! Congrats on the reflector, we don't want anything to happen to you! I love your "Things that make you go hmmm". Surprised with #2 that they thought ya'll was weird. What are Nordic walkers? Are they like mall walkers, brisk walkers for exercise? Well with #4, your smile is contagious, you do love to smile and don't let anyone stop you!!! :-)
Todd
Hey Sunshine....Your smile is truly contagious. I love it! Can't wait for the to be cont'd..next episode. Also glad you got the reflector. Hey Todd Weise - thanks for always keeping in touch with our gal! BK, Mombo
Hey Mombo, no problem. I know what it's like to be overseas (spent a long time in the Navy) and it feels good to hear from friends and loved ones back home and to keep in touch. I can say the same for you too!
