Sights of Helsinki, Finland



Temppeliaukio Church - is a Lutheran Church in the Töölö neighborhood of Helsinki. The church was designed by architects and brothers Timo and Tuomo Suomalainen, and opened in 1969. This is also a popular venue for concerts believe it or not. It's one of the most important tourist attractions because it is so unique quarried out of natural bedrock. Totally cool! 










The Permanent Exhibition of the Sports Museum of Finland has over 1,000 objects on display, covering a time span of more than 2,000 years. The oldest exhibit dates from the 5th century B.C., the newest ones are from our times. The two most cherished items on display are the gilded spike shoe of Paavo Nurmi and the medal collection of Matti Nykänen.The Exhibition includes four multimedia programs in English, focusing on the Olympic Games of 1952 in Helsinki, Finnish Olympic history, the Olympic Stadium and pesäpallo (Finnish baseball).








The Natural History Museum - The history of Life has exercised the minds of people through millennia. How, why and when are questions which science perpetually tries to answer. The Finnish Museum of Natural History's permanent exhibition, "The History of Life" tells about the development of living organisms in the light of fresh scientific results.















National Museum of Finland - This museum's main exhibitions present Finnish life from prehistoric times to the present. The permanent exhibition is divided into six departments. The Treasure Troves present the museum’s collections of coins, medals, orders, decorations, silver and weapons. The Prehistory of Finland is Finland’s largest archaeological exhibition. The Realm tells of the history of Finnish culture and society from the Middle Ages until the beginning of the 20th century. A Land and Its People presents rural life in Finland before industrialisation.














Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma - The Museum offers exhibitions, interdisciplinary artistic projects, performance art, dance, music, media art and films. Kiasma's world is also made up of conversational interludes, encounters with artists, festivals, seminars, familiarization with the web, browsing in the bookstore, and workshop experiments.




The Amos Anderson Art Museum in Helsinki city centre is one of the largest private art collections in Finland. Opened in 1965, it belongs to the organization Foreningen Konstsamfundet. The museum's founder was Amos Anderson (1878-1961), who owned several printing houses and Hufvudstadsbladet, Finland's largest wedish-language daily. Anderson was also a generous patron and supported the visual arts, music and theatre in Finland.

The Lutheran Church is a beautiful site. Good you are able to capture all the info with the photos of the various museums. This will be such a great memory of the grow program. Are you getting used to the time now? Looks like you posted this at 5:48 AM. I'm just getting up at that time to get ready for work. Think of you always.
